Barrett Township Volunteer Fire Company Is No Longer Accepting Donations

October 26, 2014 by Pocono Talk 1 Comment

Since the beginning of the Eric Frein search the Barrett Township Volunteer Fire Company has been accepting donations from the community to help the troopers, but as of yesterday they will not be.  Collecting donations was a way for our community to help give back to those that were giving so much time and effort to keep us safe.  Troopers from all over the state and neighboring states joined the search to work long hours in unforgiving terrain.  They never asked for anything, and neither did the fire department, but the community asked “How Can We Help?” so the BTVFC provided lists of needed items.  Friends, neighbors and businesses rallied together to get supplies together, to make care packages, to write signs of thanks, and in doing so it became a situation where people began to receive as much back, if not more then what they were giving.  By giving items it really helped to keep many people occupied and to feel like in some way they were helping in a helpless situation.  Although items will no longer be collected through them, the legacy of a town united by a tragedy will be remembered forever.  Eric Frein did not destroy the community but rather he ended up bringing out the best in us, lifelong friendships have been made, peoples lives have been changed for the better, and PSP now knows more then ever that they are so very appreciated for what they do every day.

We want to thank Barrett Township Volunteer Fire Company, the community, all of the helpers in serving meals, sorting items, anyone who donated – you guys did an amazing job and made a seemingly unbearable event into a show of great human kindness.  It will be forever appreciated.

What was managed by BTVFC will now be handled by the Red Cross and the Southern Baptist Relief Organization.  Here are statements from both BTVFC and Barrett Proud.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

BTFD will no longer be collecting donations as we are, sadly, no longer involved in managing the PSP Staging Area. Staging area is now being run by two major, outside disaster relief agencies.

Barrett Twp Fire Dept is extremely sad about this decision. We felt personally committed to our goal of seeing this through to the end. But, what had once run so smoothly, suddenly became difficult as our agenda was different from the Red Cross or the Southern Baptist Relief Organization.

We are also very grateful for having had the honorable opportunity to work with, serve & bond with all of the brave PSP. Without the overwhelming support from our Barrett Proud community, Monroe, Pike, Carbon & Northampton Counties, the entire State of PA and beyond…we could never have accomplished what we have. Your support has more than afforded us the ability to easily keep our commitment to support the PSP & all PA Law Enforcement while they are here, serving our community, in the manhunt of trooper killer, Eric Frein.

We are very proud of all we accomplished together as a community!!
Being able to help in this way, certainly provided our staff and the entire community a positive diversion to focus on during the search of our neighborhoods.

We continue to support the PSP in any way we can now and in the future. We continue to pray for their safety and for a swift conclusion to this situation.

We remain Barrett Proud and PSP Strong!

I’m very sad to say this…. But as of right now we as Barrett Proud and BTVFC are not taking anymore donations for the PSP due to us not being involved in the feeding efforts as of yesterday. If anything changes you guys as a community will be the first to know. But as a whole you guys are AWESOME! And we couldn’t have done half of what we did with out your support, donations, and most of all help. Thank you so so very much on behalf of my self, BTVFC and the PSP. We appreciate all of it.

But Barrett Proud’s pay pal button is still collecting donations for the families affected the Dickson and Douglas’s. Thanks again talk to you all soon!
