Crystal Cabin Fever Presents: Dinosaurs in Ice!

February 5, 2013 by Pocono Talk Leave a Comment

LAKEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA – Each year, ol’ man winter blows an icy blast of creative inspiration into the team of ice carvers at Sculpted Ice Works.  These talented professionals create Crystal Cabin Fever, an indoor, interactive display crafted from 100 tons of ice, known as one of the “Pocono’s Coolest Attractions”. This year’s theme is Dinosaurs!

Travel back into a Prehistoric Ice Age when giant, extreme reptiles roamed the earth! Experience over 20 ice dinosaurs of all sizes from all prehistoric periods.  Pose for a photo with characters from the animated classic, Ice Age, or on the giant prehistoric ice throne. Travel back to Bedrock and enjoy a free cup of hot cocoa or glass of wine with the Flintstones. Explore the Classic Ice Log Cabin, a replica from the original Crystal Cabin Fever.

Take a ride down a 50-foot dual-run dinosaur ice slide or play on the new, smaller slide for younger explorers!   Be amazed and watch as artists carve sculptures live with our daily demonstrations and weekend competitions. Take a tour through our factory to see how ice is made and how we create commercial sculptures year round, even with computers.

Stroll through the historical Natural Ice Harvest Museum and see how ice was harvested naturally in our region before the use of refrigeration.

Be sure to catch our daily ice carving demonstrations where a variety of these extreme reptiles will be crafted right before your eyes!  Refreshments include: hot dogs, hamburgers, hot pretzels and more.  Bring your camera and thirst for hot chocolate!

On Saturday, February 9 & 23, check out the live ice carving competitions from 12-4 PM.  On Sunday, February 10 & 24, catch live ice carving competitions from 12-3 PM. Ongoing ice shows President’s Day Weekend will include demos by our professional and master carvers.

Crystal Cabin Fever was developed to cure the “Cabin Fever” people often feel in February. Originally, a life-sized ice cabin was built and the unique event drew thousands of visitors.   Now in its seventh season, the Crystal Cabin Fever team has selected the dinosaur theme as a creative variation of the Crystal Cabin and ice slide. Cure your cabin fever with a trip back to when dinosaurs roamed the earth!

The detailed sculptures of Crystal Cabin Fever are created using ice blocks harvested in the Sculpted Ice Works plant here in the Poconos.  Sculpted Ice Works has opened their production facilities for a factory tour and developed a historical Natural Ice Harvest Museum.  Sculpted Ice Works is the major provider of ice blocks, ice carvings, ice bars and liquor luges to the hospitality industry throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Sculpted Ice Works is routinely contracted to create large and creative ice installations for events locally and nationally.

Crystal Cabin Fever is located at Sculpted Ice Works in Lakeville, PA on Rt. 590 between Hawley and Hamlin.

GPS Coordinates: Lat.: N 41.435995, Long.: W 75.279114

Adult admission: $12, Children $7, Children under 3: Free!

Combine your admission with a visit to the museum and factory tour for only $3 more. Crystal Cabin Fever is open daily from February 10 – 26, 2013.  Weekdays and Saturdays from 11 AM to 6 PM, Sundays from 11 AM to 4 PM.  Checkout crystalcabinfever.com or sculptediceworks.com for events and the region’s best restaurants, hotels & lodges.
